ABOUT US |
What is the Pocahontas Arts Council? The Pocahontas County Arts Council Inc. is a 501(c)3 corporation founded in 1978. We build an appreciation of the arts through education and advocacy. Through programs available in the schools and in the community, we encourage the enclusion of the arts in all aspects of community life. Moneys used in the Council are secured through a percentage of the county's hotel / motel tax and from generous contributions from individuals and businesses. The Council is made up of nine community representatives who serve as board members and officers. We meet monthly to conduct the business of the Pocahontas County Arts Council Inc. Our newest and most exciting project is the Little Yellow House in Dunmore. We recently rented a building with sufficent space to hold classes. We have a pottery kiln on site and are currently holding classes in wheel thrown pottery, drawing, pen & Ink, pastel, water color and oil painting. See our announcement page for class scedule or call us at 304-456-4600. The Council Art Show featured during Pioneer Days in July, at the McClintic library in Marlinton, is well received in the community. Both students and adult artists use a wide varietty of mediums to demonstrate their abilities. The show is divided into two shows, youth and adult. Each show has numerous categories and prizes. See our art show page for details. Besides the visual arts, we also lend our support to live theater, creative writing and the appreciation of all types of music.
